Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, the governor of Gombe State and chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, has vehemently denounced the tragic explosions that shook Maiduguri on Monday night, calling the acts “heinous, barbaric, and a direct assault on innocent lives.”
Also, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) has commiserated with the families of those killed and wished the injured ones a quick recovery, even as he condemned the heinous act.
The Borno State Police Command has verified that several suicide bombings in Maiduguri on Monday night resulted in at least 23 fatalities and 108 injuries.
The synchronized blasts, which targeted busy areas like the Monday Market, the main entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), and the Post Office Flyover, are thought to have been carried out by suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers.
Sources in the city, however, estimated the death toll higher, speculating that over 40 people—including the attackers—may have perished because some of the injured apparently passed away from their wounds while being treated.
