From Oil Blocks to Court Blocks, Diezani and EFFCC prepares for Battle

Diezani and EFFCC prepares for Battle on October 6, 2025.

The Federal High Court on Abuja has rescheduled a hearing for October 6th, 2025, concerning a legal suit filed by former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke. The Suit seeks to halt the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from auctioning properties previously seized from her.

Diezani’s Argument: The ex minister represented by Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, contends the forfeiture orders were obtained without jurisdiction and violated her constitutional right to a fair hearing. She claims she was never served formal charges summons, or proof of evidence before decisions were made.
She accuses the EFCC of misrepresentation and concealment of facts that led to court orders and is seeking an order to reverse the sale of any assets already disposed.

>EFCC Response:
The anti-graft agency countered that due process was followed, including publishing notices to invite interested parties before auctioning of assets. They cited the existence of criminal proceedings, including a 2018 federal charge and a 2017 Adamawa High Court Case and final forfeiture orders issued in July and September 2019.

The matter filed as FHC/ABJ/CS/21/2023, was initially mentioned on Monday with Justice Mohammed Umar marking October 6 for a definite hearing after both sides clarified and regularized their legal processes.
The EFCC alleges Diezani accrued multiple properties through corrupt practices during her Ministerial Tenure.
The US Department of Justice returne $52 Million in 2025, repartriated from alleged stolen assets linked to her, underscoring the global scrutiny of her asset trial.

In Summary:
A federal Court will determine if Madueke was denied due process during asset forfeiture proceedings. The decision could halt the sale of high value properties seized by the Efcc .
