INEC has announced a revised timetable for the 2027 general elections, following changes to the country’s electoral law and also to make room for the clash with Ramadan.
The Presidential and National Assembly elections will now take place on January 16, 2027, while Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
That’s not all. Party primaries and dispute resolution processes will run from April 23 to May 30, 2026, with campaigns for Presidential and National Assembly seats kicking off on August 19, 2026. Governorship and State Assembly campaigns will commence on September 9, 2026.
INEC also plans to spend N12.29 billion on printing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and N500 million on hand sanitisers, as part of its N873.78 billion budget for the elections.
