President Bola Tinubu has removed the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Tunji Disu has taken Egbetokun’s seat.
According to reports, Egbetokun’s dismissal came when Tinubu ordered him to step down.
It was learned that during a meeting held Monday in the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu gave Egebtokun the order to step down. On June 19, 2023, Tinubu named Egebtokun the 22nd IGP.
Egbetokun was appointed IGP at the age of 58 and was scheduled to retire on September 4, 2024, when he reached the required age of 60. However, the President controversially prolonged his term.
